Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose influence on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
