Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction

Slot lamented known shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with performances like these.”

He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always battle.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
