Reports indicate that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

An Important Return to Panem

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their roles will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.

This marks the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several notable actors in important characters:

• Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

1. Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
